How to Win the WSOPThe World Series of Poker's main event championship is poker's ultimate prize. Thousands of players turn up every year for a shot at this coveted title and the millions of dollars, not to mention worldwide fame, that comes with it. You probably know that anyone can participate in the World Series of Poker, and that amateurs have won the event. If you should find yourself sitting at a WSOP table, do you have a chance? How can you win the WSOP? Here are some of the qualities you'll need.
PatienceYou definitely have to get lucky to win the WSOP, but you have to play well too. That means being patient. You should play a disciplined game, waiting for good hands, and playing them strongly. It may get frustrating to fold hand after hand, but remember this is deep stack poker, and your chip stack far outweighs the amount of the blinds, so there's no need to gamble too much. Remember this is a two week event, and no one wins it on the first day.
EnduranceThe main event lasts a long time. In addition to the weeks you will be playing, each session will take most of the day. You need to be prepared to be in there for the long haul. Tired players make mistakes, so you need to do everything you can to keep your energy up, meaning eating right, getting as full a night's sleep as you can, and getting up to stretch your legs every once in awhile.
LuckYes, poker is a game of skill, but there's luck involved too. You probably will be involved in a contest for all your chips at some point during the tournament, and even if the poker odds are favorable, you're going to have to make it count. Plenty of people play tremendous poker for days at the World Series and end up with nothing. In other words, bring along that rabbit's foot, four leaf clover, or whatever else you feel tips the odds in your favor.
ConfidenceYou need to come into the event believing you are going to win. If you are unsure of yourself, skilled players will notice it and pounce on you. You'll also need to draw on that confidence for reserves of strength when the chips are down. A confident player is a winning player, you just need to see poker at the TV or read a while on any poker forum to confirm that.
